GCC places a premium on teaching the Word of God. We have a crop of dedicated, highly trained, and knowledgeable bible teachers using the highly acclaimed bible study manuals, most of which are authored by the senior Pastor, Dr. Jerry Udoh, through the leading of the Holy Spirit. Teaching helps to break down the word of God into understandable bits to build up and help a believer walk in obedience. The continuous part of discipleship, nonetheless, is teaching people. The addition of teaching as part of the Lord’s last command is to make disciples appreciate the strong connection between teaching and discipleship.
One of the systematic spiritual gifts given to believers is the gift of teaching. The gift of teaching can be explained as the supernatural ability, in wisdom and understanding, God gives to some believers to excel in helping people comprehend the meaning of Scripture and how to relate it to their lives. The unmistakable reference to this gift is observed in Romans 12:6–8.
The foundation of Bible teaching ministry is Christ’s teaching ministry. We see His prominence in teaching in three areas: He was labeled a teacher, He had a vast teaching ministry, and He emphasized teaching in His last command to believers.
Not only was Jesus regularly called a teacher, but He also spent a lot of His time teaching the followers. More than forty-seven times in the Gospels we read of Jesus teaching people. Two examples show this teaching emphasis (Matthew 5:1, 2; 7:28, 29; Luke 19:47, 48).
Observing the importance Jesus put on teaching in His ministry, we are not shocked that He included teaching in His final command to us, recorded in Matthew 28:19 and 20.
GCC uses the midweek serve time, held every Wednesday, 7 p.m., for bible education and teaching.
New Believer’s class and baptism classes are two other subsets of believers where the Bible is made to come alive in their lives in a powerful way.
